These are all installation images of a commissioned piece I completed at the California Museum of Photography in Riverside. The show was on drag racing and I was asked to come up with a sculptural piece that serves as a contemporary intervention. I borrowed an old go-cart from my Dad and made a racing outfit that mirrored the one my favorite motorcycle racer wore when I was a kid named Five Flavor Fleming. I renamed myself for the piece, "‘Leven Lightning Lippire" and shot a three minute film of me racing on the Pomona Raceway in Pomona, CA . A large 12-foot pedestal was built to match the shape of the car that sat on top while the video projected on one side and my helmet and racing suit were displayed on the other side. Along the backside cascades the hand painted umbrellas I used as my “parachute” deployed at the end of my drag race.
